Paranoid about head lice?

I am 15 and at middle school i used to get headlice all of the time. i haven't had lice since i started high school (3 years ago) but i am constantly worried that i have them again. Although none of my friends have them, my head always feels itchy. I am terrified of combing my hair incase i find something. I never see anything crawling in the mirror and i have a long fringe which i can see no traces of life in. I am having my hair cut on Saturday so is there another reason my scalp is itchy - could it be sensitive or because i am paranoid? My head is near my family all the time and they get their hair cut all of the time which means they are lice free.

I am just really worried that my hair dresser will start screaming or something because i have little mates in my head, so can you please tell me if i could just have an itchy scalp or something. Last time i thought i had lice my mum checked but there was nothing there.

I am really terrified of checking through my hair so please help

i think its psycological. my mom has the same problem. literally, all i have to do is say the word 'lice' and she starts itching and begs me to check her head. it drives me nuts because she does this everytime i just say the word. but yeah even if you do have bugs they wont start screaming or anything they'll just stop and tell you to go home and take care of it.

Paranoid about head lice?

Your head may be itchy because your scalp is dry. Try some medicated shampoo and have your mom check your hair for lice. This way you'll feel better.

Paranoid about head lice?

you have to check, there's lots of products to get rid of them

Paranoid about head lice?

use fairytales shampoo or tea tree oil shampoo lice cannot live in a head washed in it

Paranoid about head lice?

dry scalp could be your problem. since you have already had lice you will know what to look for. have mom or someone check closely for you before the haircut. a professional hairdresser will not scream but should merely and quietly tell you they see an infest and please go treat it and return for the cut. if you have it so does your family. chances are you just dried your scalp with to much product. a good daily conditioner should help

Paranoid about head lice?

aww bless ya. you could just have an itchy scalp sweetie. my head itches all the time as i have psorasis on my scalp and even in my eyebrows when i'm really stressed.

Paranoid about head lice?

It's possibly a psychological itch but maybe a scalp issue. Have you changed your shampoo lately?

And so what if you get lice....just treat it again.

My kids don't get lice but thats only because they have short hair except for my daughter...but she starts school in September so she is sure to get them then at some point.

REMEMBER...lice will invade clean hair, not dirty hair. So if you get lice, look on the positive...you keep your hair clean. :op

Sure its not dandruff? if you can see anything maybe you have a sensitive scalp (does that sound crazy?) try baby shampoo.

Paranoid about head lice?

The mind is a tricky thing. When you are paranoid about something you start feeling it and going crazy over it. Like once i heard on tv the symtoms of being infected with a virus. I kept thinking about it and i started feeling something, i was scared out of my mind. If you are really convinced of something you can feel it.

Paranoid about head lice?

It's okay, you probably just have dandruff or something. Pick up some head n shoulders or an anti-dry shampoo %26amp; conditioner. You being paranoid doesn't help either just quit thinking you have lice %26amp; when you get your hair cut remain calm....it'll be fine trust me! Relax sweetie %26amp; best of luck with your new haircut!!!

i have the same paranoid problem as you.. i had bed bugs when i was 15 years old.. i picked up from visiting a dirty place with my parents .. i came home and was ichy all night.. so i took about 10 showers to loose the bugs.. since then i always feel ichy when im around dirty people.. its a recation that you do ..its a paranoid thing but a person has to control it.. you cant stop picking up lice from malls store or where ever you go.. sorry... just always wash and stay clean and stay away from dirty people .thats what i do.. i nver have lice or bed bugs since the one time ..good luck

Oh that's a good attitude to have about it! I don't want to look cause I may have them! What sense does that make? Better to look and find them as early as you can!!! Getting your hair cut has nothing to do with preventing lice or being lice free! There was probably a kid at your school you kept getting them from so don't borrow any body's brush or comb or hat. I doubt you'll get lice anymore since it's been three years so get a hold of yourself and quit acting silly about it!

Paranoid about head lice?

Don't worry you could just have dry scalp, try changing shampoo and don't wash your all the time. I

I caught the little blighters when working in a local Nursery as a nursery nurse. I used the conditioner and comb method. Lots of conditioner and tooth comb the hair. I still do this now even though I haven't worked with children for 3 years. My sister caught them from someone on a crowded bus. So every week now she uses the same method.

I also advocate a drop of tea trea oil on my brush.

Paranoid about head lice?

no worries I think ive got lice at the moment becuz my head itches like hell and IM gonna have my hair cut pretty soon too...

OK im goin 2 shower the shower now and goin too look at my head ...

Scracth,scratch , scratch...:S

Paranoid about head lice?

My kids bring head lice home every week. The school sends home "Nit notes" when the teachers spot them but without a complete amnesty like the one Sinead sponsored In Ireland, they'll never go.

Further to previous, don't bother with lotions, because lice get used to them. Get a decent nit comb and comb your hair daily. If you have got lice (nits are the eggs) the adults and young ones will come out straight away. Work your way across your head a few times. When the eggs hatch you'll pull them out before they are big enough to lay eggs. Wipe the lice on a towel which should go straight into the washing machine or wipe them off into a bowl of water.

A week of combing should get rid of them but keep checking by combing every few days.

Finally, as the other answers say, get someone like your Mum to check your head and follow up the advice about psoriasis etc

We use the Nitty Gritty Nit Free Comb - it cost a 鎷?0 and you have to use a conditioner before you use it but it's brill for pulling the eggs out.

Go to nittygritty.co.uk for more.

Good Luck!

I used to have bad lice problems when I was younger, but it was because my school had lice "epidemics".In order to get rid of them, my mother tried EVERYTHING, and in the end she had to use some really strong products, which, when all the lice was gone, left me with terrible dandruff because the shampoos were so hard on the scalp. I've still got dandruff because of it. Anyway, if you've had lice in the past, and used strong products, chances are that you're suffering the consequences of the damage they cause -such as dandruff and itchiness due to dry scalp. My hairdresser cut a lot of my hair off because of lice, which I wasn't happy about, but he didn't freak out. Remember, they see different types of hair every day, they're used to that kind of stuff. Don't be scared of looking through your hair, get your mum to do it. If you have got lice, ask your hairdresser for recommendations as to what is the best way to treat them.

But, if your friends and your family don't have lice, the chances are that you won't either, because they tend to be passed on quickly from head to head in close proximity. If you had them, you'd be passing them on to your friends and family too. Anyway, get it checked out just in case, and don't worry, it's just head lice!

Good luck!
