How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

I found headlice (both live and eggs) in my daughters hair recently and she's having her hair cut tomorrow ready for school...! I need help, I dont want an embarrassing situation with the hair-dresser so I need to get rid of them asap!! She cant have her hair cut later because she goes back to school in two days....!! PLEASE HELP!!

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

your drug store should have an over the counter shampoo that will kill them asap. The issue is that those eggs are sticky and very difficult to get off. You have to pinch the hair at the scalp and slide your nails down each hair, scraping the eggs off each strand. They have special combs, but those aren't narrow enough to scrape the eggs off the strands.

Oh! And don't forget to wash her bedding in that shampoo. There are directions for running it through your washing machine. Clean her room really well, wash all her linens. Run her pillows through a hot cycle in the dryer and vacuum her floor really, really well. Otherwise they will be right back.

Also, while you are washing her head, concentrate at the back of her head, at her neck. They like that spot cause it is soft and warm for them. But know they will start running all over the place as soon as you start washing and srcubbing.

Clean hair brushes and check everyone else too. And keep checking for several weeks just in case they are still around and starting a new generation somewhere.

Help her to not be too freaked out too. This can be traumatic for her. Try to be cool about everything you do. From her perspective she might feel like she has spiders or snakes all over her. Don't scare her.

Good luck hon.

Ask your local pharmacist

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

GO TO CVS OR ECKERD DRUG....GO BACK TO THE PHARMACY....THEY HAVE THE PRODUCTS FOR THIS

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

Go to Walgreen's or cvs and get a product from the pharmacy, call RID and they have others to wash all clothing and bedding and follow directions!

What I suggest is to go get a gas mask and start spraying your daughter's hair with bug spray. That or see if the lice will jump onto your neighbor's pet.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

damp her hair. and use a extremly fine toothed comb to extensively comb her hair. after that just look through her hair..if that still doesnt work i think you get lice shampoos

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

spray you head with raid

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

any drug stores have many different stuff for head lice, from shampoo's to special combs, and you can use both.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

They make special shampoo for that available at any drug store. It should come with a very fine comb for you to use to brush out the lice and eggs. Also stuffed animals and other such toys should be kept in a bag for about a month to kill any lice on them.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

can,t think of the name off hand, but the local, including all have something like called ridlice

works great, but use as directed

then you need to check every one else in family

%26amp; each needs their own comb or brush

%26amp; no pillow swap

sometimes you need to treat bedding also

if school age is the carry home this is quite common

you need to talk to them about good practices

cautions about loaning caps, combs, clothes or even touching others hair %26amp; then their own

it usually runs in streaks in classes

it is no reflection on the way you raiuse your kids

more like a fact of life

I hate to say this but my daughter had head lice and it took us ages to get rid of them none of the stuff seamed to work, we just persevered with tea tree shampoo and conditioner and combed her hair every three days, I hope you find a solution to your problem.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

You can get headlice treatment with an active ingredient called malathion which is currently recommended.

Or you can get a nit comb and start combing. Wash the hair, put on conditioner but dont wash it out. Go in sections and comb and comb from scalp to tip, wiping the comb each time in a bit of tissue. Then wash out the conditioner and hope you got all the little buggers.

tea tree oil based shampoo can help stop it coming back.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

They have products for that anywhere. I can't remember the name of them.

One starts with a "N". I think it's "Nexus"

You can go to like Wal-mart and ask the pharmacist. Don't be embarrassed. Most children in school, especially girls with long hair, get it. If you don't take care of the problem then I'd be embarrassed, but you are taking care of it.

BTW.....WASH EVERYTHING!! Wipe off couches too. Anything her hair may have touched or it will keep coming back.

Good Luck.

I agree. Go the drug store and ask the pharmacists. There's probably an over the counter thing to buy. I think you will have to get one of those really tiny combs to get the eggs out.

But I wouldn't take her to hairdresser. I doubt you can get them all out in 24 hrs. If I was hairdresser and a mom took their child to see me and they had lice I would be pretty upset.

You have to go buy some lice-killing shampoo and comb-out gel. With a lice-comb you will comb each strand of hair very carefully and pin it up. The lice you comb out have to be put in a plastic bag and thrown away right after you finish the combing process (which will take around 1-2 hours depending on the hair length). Also wash all bedding and stuffed animals, also clothes your daughter wore, hot and put it in the dryer on hot for at least 30 minutes. Stuff you can not wash should be put in plastic bags which you close and store for about 2 weeks. You have to check your daughter's hair everyday for eggs and newly hatched lice and if you find some again, do the whole combing process again. About 7-10 days after the first treatment with lice-killing shampoo you have to repeat the shampooing and combing to make sure you kill the new generation, which may have survived, before they get old enough to produce more lice themselves. - Just go buy a lice-killing kit (one good brand is "Rid") and read the instructions very carefully and follow all steps. Good luck for you and your daughter! :-)

Ask at your nearest chemists; they have a range of excellent products, all of which are effective. Dont worry too much about it- its very common, and these creatures only go for clean hair!!!!

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

i have had the same problem and i brought tee tree conditioner spray and a metal toothcomb with the handle(easier to use) and went through her hair section by section, ive tried the so called lotions and no joy so found best solution was to spend a couple of hours to do it myself make sure hair is saturated and they wont be able to cling to the hair.I hope this helps as i know its a nightmare.

Try a lice remover kit, you can by one at any drug store. Please cancel her hair cut for tomorrow. Lice spread very easy. I worked in a salon, they should refuse to cut her hair if they see any lice or eggs. Plus she can pass this on to the next person, or the hairdresser giving her the hair cut. Combs, shampoo bowl, the chair, and all carry them. If the salon finds them they have to shut down and bleach everything, and that isn't fair to them. Lice only go to clean hair. Wash all the bedding in hot water with bleach, and if you can replace the pillows. Dry all items in a HOT dryer. Take shirts and clothing if possible and also wash in HOT water. Bath towels ect...If you have a dog or a cat, also bath them. I've been threw this on your side, and also on the side of the hairdresser. She also should not go to school if you know they are not gone. It could take serveral shampoo's with the lice shampoo. Don't be embarrassed, this things can happen to the best of us. Good Luck!!!

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

my niece has the same problem, her head was constantly covered, finally my sister put baby oil on her hair, and combed the nits and lice out, they can't stick to the hair because of the baby oil, then use tea tree shampoo and conditioner and while the conditioner is in get her to comb her hair through with the nit comb, it'll stop her from getting them again.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

Wash her hair in tea tree shampoo then put loads of conditioner in her hair take fine sections and comb with a fine tooth comb you might have to do it a couple of times but it works and its cheap better than strong chemicals that lice are getting used to.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

First use a product called "RID". You can find it at Wall-Mart, or any drug store. Put enough in her hair so that all her hair is wet with it, wait about 15 minutes, then shampoo it out. Use a good conditioner, because when your done, you need to use the combs that come with it and go through every inch of her hair with them. Take a small section at a time and run nit comb through until you don't feel any more "tugging". You'll have to repeat this in 7-10 days, just in case any eggs were missed. Expect to spend pretty much the rest of the night on her hair. Good luck!!

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

here it goes my kids have got them twice. first of all (rid) will kill the lice.there is a comb with it you have to comb out the nits(eggs) they are tiny and attached to the base of the hair. the further away from the scalp the longer they have had them.you have to slowly go through their head a small patch at the time and remove the nits. the cycle is i think 2 weeks. A good trick to make sure they are dead is using a hot hairdryer on their head. any that escape your discovery will die by the heat. I will say this do not take your child to get a haircut. my wife is a hair stylist and when they find someone with lice they have to send them home it doesn't matter if their head is half cut. then they have to disinfect everything they have. Also lice only live a short time off the host but bedding and stuffed animals should be washed and dried in a hot dryer. every bodies head should be checked their school should be notified (so they can find who gave them to your child) All combs bow and brushes should be disinfected.Keep a check on them they may return using a dryer every couple of nights will prevent re infestation.Lice love clean heads so don't be embarrassed.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

Get a nit comb, wash her hair, put lots of conditioner on her hair, and comb through, break the darned things legs, they die, and cant lay further eggs! Keep this up every time you wash her hair, Use Tea Tree Oil, they hate that!!!

Warn your hairdresser, she can decide to do it and sterilise her combs afterwards, or leave it for a couple of days.

But this is an every week occurance, dont worry too much.

Head lice prefer nice clean hair!

Also ARGOS do an battery nit comb whiich ZAPS them when you come through, very satisfying - good luck!

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

this is a LEGITIMATE reason to keep your child off school do not sent them back till the infestation is cleared -if they go to school and infect another kid your kid will get reinfected if you clean it up so fix it first ring the school in the morning just say Ive got head lice when i have treated them and she is non infectious i will bring her in they would prefer it treated than half the school infested, you can try coating the hair with conditioner and combing them out but this only clears the ones you see it doesn't necessarily kill them all you need to treat them properly don't take them to the hairdressers till you have killed all the lice or you are potentially infesting every customer goes to that store

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

OIL IN DRY HAIR FOR TWENTY MINS, THEN ADD SHAMPOO, RINSE AND COMB.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

conditioner and a nit comb.

wash the hair and apply a good amount of conditioner and comb it through with a brush or comb first and then with the nit comb, this will get rid of the nits, you will need to go through her hair doing the same thing everynight for the next week. the eggs you will have to pull down the hair using your fingers as the nit combs only clear the nits and not the eggs.

Phone the hairdresser before you go in, explain that although she has no nits on her head she may have eggs left on her head that you have not managed to get rid of. ask if they are prepared to cut it, if not then you could wait until the weekend and try then or try another hairdresser.

You could try over the counter treatments from the chemist but they can be expensive and not do the job properly. I tried a mousse on my kids and it was just as bad after I used it, twice!!

conditioner is cheap and the only thing it takes is time.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

weve put our kids thru school, the nit factory...we use a bug spray called FRONTLINE. its meant for your pets, but by golly it works instantly. we sprayed our kids twice a year, start of school nowish, and again at easter. you can only get it from the vet, and you may have to borrow your neighbours cat or dog. put a damp towel over their faces, and spray.. leave it on and wash as normal the following day... no moer combing, no more screaming kids...

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

"Hedrin". It is a thin silicone oil that you rub into your hair and leave for a few hours before washing out. It drowns the lice, so they cannot become resistant.

How do you get rid of headlice as soon as possible??!?

Do they sell Vick's vapor rub in the UK? If so get some and rub it all over her hair, comb it through and if it's long, braid it.Leave it in her hair for 24 hours, then wash her hair with dishwashing soap, then with regular shampoo.Blow-dry as hot as she can stand, but be careful not to burn her scalp. This will kill the adults and the eggs.
