Hair cuts: 10 years or 30 years of experience?

I need a new hair dresser. I went into a place where the owner has 40 years of experience and the others had 35 years. Would you want someone who has 5-10 years of experience or more years? My feeling is that the younger the beauticians are the better because I feel they are always learning new haircut styles, whereas the ones with more experience only know what they know from way back. What is your opinion? Also, how do I find one that i'm going to like? I feel I have no one to ask in my town because I just moved. Thanks.

The best advise I can give you is to find someone who has a cut you like and ask them who cuts it and what salon they work for.

I've been a licensed cosmetologist for thirty years.

Hope this helps.

I totally agree. When I started reading your question, I was going to answer with exactly what you said yourself.

How I found my hairdresser is that I called up several salons and asked whether they had any European, or European-trained hair dressers. I think they are better than American, not that their bad, or anything.

I also would go up to random people, with a really cool hair cut and ask them politely, where they got their hair cut.

That's a tough one, I used to go to a guy, top stylest for 2 years paying 70 for a haircut, but realized the lowest experience cut my hair just the same and for only 25 dollars. Your right they do go to shows, but usually they all do at the salon.

i would go for a younger person.. but not too inexperienced. Maybe you could go to some local salons and ask if they have any portfolios (for each stylist) and see what one you prefer or you could ask maybe some people you work with or even random people you see who have a hair style you like. You could also go to a salon and ask for a specific style and ask if they have a stylist who is exceptionally good at it. Or go into the salon with a pic of what you want and ask to see who can do the style best. Some people are better at color, some better at short cuts, some better at up dos etc

Well....i think someone can be good at what they do sometimes regardless of experience. someone with experience could still look and learn how to do the new hairstyles though.

toodles. XD
