I do it all the time! You just push them to the side, to cover your eye. and do a slanted cut with the sissors.

oh if you want a layered, more natural look

twist a strand of hair 1/2" in diameter and slowly run your scissors down the shaft, lightly make mini chops as you run down the shaft. Then twist the next strand, and start cutting those mini chops a little lower than your first strand, and work your way to the side of your face. This way, you'll have willowy, but very congruent bangs that will suit your face and look very natural.

that's how they cut mine at this uber-expensive salon. it turned out much better than what it'd expected.
